U.S. Thanksgiving Festival 2016

A new Creature and an old seasonal Creature both are available in the Market now.  The new Creature is Tutanbarley, a combination of Human and Serpent, breeding time 1 day, 19 hours.   The Creature from last year who has returned is The Cursed Turkey, Cat and Hawk combination, breed time 1 day.  As long as they appear in the Market, you can breed them.

There is another new Creature in the form of the Jackal King who is found in the Revive Pyramid.  He therefore is not a seasonal Creature although he appeared today as well for the first time.  He required more Tokens to revive than any of his predecessors as follows:

Jackal King:

7 Grey Tokens
7 Purple Tokens
6 Green Tokens
10 Blue Tokens
5 Red Tokens

The sheer number of Tokens required for this one makes one aware of the wisdom of continuing to sacrifice dupilcate Creatures even when one has exhausted the Revive Pyramid List.  A new Creature could be added at ANY time!

In Creatures of Olympus, the seaonsl Thanksgiving Creatures are the Roman Turkey and Autumn Fairy.  As the Roman Turkey is an old seasonal offered once again, its habits and parentage were known.  Use a Bull and Eagle.  Breeding time is 2 days.  The Autumn Fairy, however is new and I wanted her very badly before I have to go into hospital for an operation...  I got her today using Eagle and Fish.  Breeding time is 24 hours.  So very pleased and hope it will be a good omen.

Finally, at the end of this week, two more Creatures were released.  In Egypt, the Creature is to be found in the Underground in the form of the Scorpion King.  He is bred from Scorpion and Ha and breeding time is 1 Day 22 Hours.

In Creatures of Olympus, the Creature is in the Water World and is the Coraline Stallion.  No one yet has logged either the breeding combination or breeding time for this one.  One hopes we will have a few days to solve the mystery and obtain this delicate new sea creature.

Thanks to Silver Elf for Scorpion King breeding time.

Tutanbarley and John Barleycorn

The oldest form of brew is Barley Beer probably, made from emmer barley.  One of the most ancient legends from Canaan is about the god Mot and his sacrifice at the hands of the goddess Anat.  It is one of the oldest poems about the seasonal Sacrifice of the Eternal God/King and it features the God of the Underworld, Mot by Anat.

'She seizes Mot the son of El,
With a blade she cleaves him;
With a shovel she winnows him;
With fire she parches him;
With a millstone she grinds him,
In the field she sows him.,
His remains the birds eat.
The wild creatures consume his fragments,
Remains from remains are sundered.'

It is, of course, the most ancient rite of Sacrifice of the Grain and its resurrection through the planting of the seed

The legend of John Barleycorn is English rather than Egyptian.  It is a myth of Eternal Sacrifice and there is an old folksong about the rite.

'There were three men came out of the West,
Their fortunes for to try.
And these three men made a solemn vow,
John Barleycorn must die.

They've plowed, they've sown, they've harrowed him in
Threw clods upon his head,
And these three men made a solemn vow,
John Barleycorn was dead.

They've let him lie for a very long time,
'Til the rains from heaven did fall,
And little Sir John sprung up his head,
And so amazed them all!

They've let him stand 'til Midsummer's Day
'Til he looked both pale and wan,
And little Sir John has grown a long, long beard,
And so become a man.

They've hired men with their scythes so sharp
To cut him off at the knee,
They've rolled him and tied him by the way
Serving him most barbarously.

They've hired men with their sharp pitchforks
Who've pricked him to the heart.
And the loader he has served him worse than that,
For he has bound him to the cart.

They've wheeled im round and round a field
Til they came unto a poind,
And there they made a solemn oath
On poor John Barleycorn.

They've hired men with their crabtree sticks
To cut him skin from bone,
And the miller he has served him worse than that,
For he has ground him between two stones.

And little Sir John and the nut brown bowl
And his brandy in the glass
And little Sir John and the nut brown bowl
Proved the strongest man at the last.

The huntsman he can't hunt the fox
Nor so loudly blow his horn
Without Sir John Barleycorn.

Ancient Egyptian Phrases and Freyashawk Age of Pyramids Group on Facebook

I always have loved languages.  The more obscure they are, the more they interest me.  I created a little Group on Facebook for Age of Pyramids, hoping that some of the players who use Global Chat in the game especially will join.  The Global Chat is essentially for game help and conversation is limited at best.  On Facebook, there is no limit to the amount of conversation a player can have with others.

It occurred to me that it would be interesting if we learned a few basic phrases in Ancient Egyptian.  I believe it is most similar to modern Coptic.

I will create a page on this site for the phrases that you will be able to access through a tab link at the top of any post.

Meanwhile, however, here is the first phrase:

English:  Live forever!
Ancient Egyptian:  A'nkh djet!

It is a polite and very charming greeting.

Low Level Breeding Tip and Seasonal Creatures

First of all, some players wonder why I bothered to create a site for either Age of Pyramids or Creatures of Olympus when an extensive Wikia site exists.  The difference really is that my site does not include ANY adverts.  You can visit any page on this site and obtain information instantly without being forced to endure the loading of advertisements from outside iagents.  I never have allowed any advertising to be included with my guides and I never will.

That having been said, I wanted to share my recent 'Seasonal' experiences both in Age of Pyramids and in Creatures of Olympus and to share a trick for obtaining Creatures you cannot breed using the basic combinations simply because your level is not high enough to have unlocked the necessary habitats.

I began playing both of these games only in mid-June when I was in hospital for major surgery.  The internet connection was terrible, but I found that I could spend a brief time in Age of Pyramids, Creatures of Olympus and Fish Adventure Seasons where I was unable often to play a game like Family Farm Seaside.

Thus, when Hallowe'en came, my levels were still not high enough to have unlocked all Habitats.  In Age of Pyramids, I was unable to buy the Ha Habitat ab initio in the Underground, because I had not reached Level 45.  In Creatures of Olympus, I was unable to purchase the Bird Habitat in Hades or the Octopus Habitat in the Water Kingdom.

Low Level Breeding Trick

I worked like a maniac and ultimately was able to unlock the Ha Habitat in Egypt Underground and in Olympus, the Octopus Habitat in the Water Kingdom but I was unable to progress far enough for the Bird Habitat in Hades.  Rather than spending a colossal number of Diamonds to purchase the Nightmare Horse outright, I bought the least expensive Bird and Wolf combination and used that to try to obtain the Nightmare Horse.  It took many attempts and many speed-ups but I did it in the end.  Having unlocked the Octopus Habitat, I was able finally to breed Kelpie after many unsuccessful attempts and speed-ups.

In Egypt, Freyashawk bought the Egyptian Bat outright and then used that to breed Djinni.

Ordinarly, I swear by the basic combinations both in Egypt and in Olympus.  Unless I am trying to clone a non-breedable creature, I use two basic creatures always in breeding.  Where a player has not been able to unlock one of the basic habitats, however, and is determined to breed a seasonal Creature, he/she shoudl go to the market to find the least expenive Creature who carries both the parent types needed for the Seasonal Creature.  You can place it in the Habitat you HAVE unlocked and then use it to breed the Seasonal Creature.  Along the way, you may breed another hybrid that carries the basic type you need but whose habitat is not yet unlocked, allowing you to have two breeding experiments at all times, even if you have not unlocked the high-level habitat.

The Nature and Timing of Seasonal Creatures
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Halloween was the first time I encountered 'Seasonal Creatures' in both games.  I now know what to expect.  Initially, I had thought they would be pulled from the game the day AFTER Halloween, but there was a grace period that extended to Friday.  They were pulled from the game on Friday morning, P.S.T.  (Frismos operates from California).

What this meant was that, if you had the Seasonal Creature in your Breeding Castle or in the Nursery/Kindergarten, it would not vanish even when the Creature was pulled from the market.  I doubt, however, that you would be able to start a new breeding experiment and expect to obtain the Creature even that day if it no longer appeared in the Market.

The Creature who was in the Mystic Pyramid disappeared as abruptly and even if the player had just opened the door to the Chamber and should have had 6 days to try for it, the chamber no longer existed.  I had not expected THAT but it was confirmed by a number of players.

Seasonal Creatures are introduced before the actual Holiday date.  It appears that they are brought into the game gradually rather than being placed all at once.  One should not expect to have too many days AFTER the Holiday date to continue to try to breed the Creature but one does have a small grace period in each case, according to veteran players.
